Mini Christmas Argyle Sock

Merry Christmas

The instructions in the free, downloadable pattern below are very similar to the instructions for full sized socks. This might be a good exercise before starting a real pair.

The colors are chosen for Christmas but any colors can be used to make an ornament to hang on a dance bag or anywhere else.

Notes

A few notes not included in the pattern:

  • Since these are not being worn by a dancer and the pattern is small, you can get away with carrying over the yarn, like fair isle knitting.
  • The inside of the sock will probably not be seen so I was lazy and just trimmed the yarn ends rather than weaving in the ends. Did I ever mention that I hate weaving in ends?

  • If you don't know how to "wrap a slipped stitch" here is a good explanation:
    • Wrapping on a knit row:
      1. Work up to the stitch to be wrapped.
      2. Slip the next stitch with the yarn held to the back of the work.
      3. Bring yarn to front and turn work to other side.
      4. Slip the same stitch with yarn held to back of work.
      5. Slip next stitch with yarn held to front of work.
    • Wrapping on a purl row:
      1. Work up to the stitch to be wrapped.
      2. Slip the next stitch with the yarn held to the front of the work.
      3. Bring yarn to back and turn work to other side.
      4. Slip the same stitch with yarn held to front of work.
      5. Slip next stitch with yarn held to back of work.

  • Explanation for grafting a toe:
    • Put stitches on two needles. One in back, one in front with yarn on a darning needle to the right side in the back.
    • Thread through the stitches as follows:
      1. Front right stitch - purl wise / leave on needle.
      2. Back right stitch - knit wise / leave on needle.
      3. Front right stitch - knit wise / drop off needle
      4. Front right stitch - purl wise / leave on needle.
      5. Back right stitch - purl wise / drop off needle.
      6. Repeat #2 through #5 until all stitches have been dropped.
      7. Weave yarn end through knitting and then trim.
