Merry Christmas
The instructions in the free, downloadable pattern below are very similar to the instructions for full sized socks. This might be a good exercise before starting a real pair.
The colors are chosen for Christmas but any colors can be used to make an ornament to hang on a dance bag or anywhere else.

Notes
A few notes not included in the pattern:
- Since these are not being worn by a dancer and the pattern is small, you can get away with carrying over the yarn, like fair isle knitting.
- The inside of the sock will probably not be seen so I was lazy and just trimmed the yarn ends rather than weaving in the ends. Did I ever mention that I hate weaving in ends?
- If you don't know how to "wrap a slipped stitch" here is a good explanation:
- Wrapping on a knit row:
- Work up to the stitch to be wrapped.
- Slip the next stitch with the yarn held to the back of the work.
- Bring yarn to front and turn work to other side.
- Slip the same stitch with yarn held to back of work.
- Slip next stitch with yarn held to front of work.
- Wrapping on a purl row:
- Work up to the stitch to be wrapped.
- Slip the next stitch with the yarn held to the front of the work.
- Bring yarn to back and turn work to other side.
- Slip the same stitch with yarn held to front of work.
- Slip next stitch with yarn held to back of work.
- Wrapping on a knit row:
- Explanation for grafting a toe:
- Put stitches on two needles. One in back, one in front with yarn on a darning needle to the right side in the back.
- Thread through the stitches as follows:
- Front right stitch - purl wise / leave on needle.
- Back right stitch - knit wise / leave on needle.
- Front right stitch - knit wise / drop off needle
- Front right stitch - purl wise / leave on needle.
- Back right stitch - purl wise / drop off needle.
- Repeat #2 through #5 until all stitches have been dropped.
- Weave yarn end through knitting and then trim.
